Democrat
for
District E Common Council

If you want to see change, you need to bring it about by engaging with local politics. Change starts where your children go to school, where you pay taxes, and where you share your morning coffee with your local neighbors.

Transparency

Property Taxes

Education

  1. Greater transparency and accountability.  Fiscal Responsibility is key. We are over taxed.  We need to ensure that if we are doing our jobs of paying out taxes that the money is being well spent and invested correctly.  Using our tax dollars wisely has been my top priority.

  2. Norwalk needs to be a leader on how to generate income from other sources than residential property taxes.  We are the sixth most populous city in the state with a population of approximately 85, 000 citizens yet most of our city income is generated from property tax dollars on the homeowner.   The Mayor's administration has confused its wants with the taxpayers' needs. The current 2008 tax reassessment was proof of this.  Enough is enough. We need strong voices on the Common Council so we can diversify the tax base.  One way of doing this is to streamline the planning process for business and encouraging small business to want to operate in Norwalk.  Businesses bring growth, diversity and opportunity.

  3. Education – It is not okay to not be a leader of education in Fairfield County.   Education is key for future generations.   Why are towns like Wilton and Darien leading the way and Norwalk is falling further behind?  Norwalk residents pay almost 1/3 more in taxes than a resident of Darien, yet our schools underperform each year.   Why?  We need to support education initiatives and be vocal to ensure the teachers and more importantly the children have what is needed.   We want young couples to want to raise their children in Norwalk.  Their ideas are our future.

  4. Future generations should have the same rights that we do. We need to preserve "open green" space. Development is great for a city but we also need parks to enjoy, trails to walk, dog parks, clean beaches and trees. Preservation of these areas helps support the rights of future generations and preserves our environment. We need to maintain a balance in Norwalk for the preservation, protection and conservation of our environment. Supporting the Norwalk Land Trust is one great way of doing this. Cleaning up the sound as a kayaker or a beach lover is another way. Nora King is a kayaker and supports cleaning of the sound and paddling each year in Kayak for A Cause to support local charities that support the environment.
